EA has announced a new initiative titled a 'Battlefield Labs', which will act as a Closed Testing Environment (CTE) for the next addition to the Battlefield franchise. Along with the announcement video, quite a few clips were included from the next Battlefield game. You can see the announcement video below:
It looks like Battlefield will be returning to a contemporary setting soon. The footage (which is from an extremely early version of the game) features guns, equipment, and vehicles that are quite modern. The setting is very contemporary as well, and it looks like Levolution has been turned up to 11.
The last three entries in the Battlefield series have all been set either in the past, or in the near future. The latest entry titled 'Battlefield 2042' is set in (you guessed it) 2042, mostly with weapons and vehicles that do not exist yet. The two previous titles before that, 'Battlefield 1' and 'Battlefield 5' were set on World War 1 and World War 2 settings respectively. Looks like the next entry will be set in a more grounded and modern setting.
YouTuber JackFrags has an excellent summary video of the announcement from EA, including what the 'Battlefield Labs' initiative entails, as well as what fans can expect the upcoming Battlefield game to have. Here is the video below for your convenience:
No release date has yet been announced, but in a recent earning results, EA announced that they expect the game to launch fiscal year 2026 (April 2025 to March 2026). More specifically, there is a very good chance that this game will be released sometime near the Holiday season of 2025, however.
